Writing Community


Jakarta, March 18, 2024 - The English Language Education Masters Program, Faculty of Islamic Education and Teacher Training, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, once again provides facilities to improve the quality of students, namely by holding the MPBI Writing Community Session 4. The event, which took place on Monday, March 18, 2024 from 09.00 to 15.00 WIB, aims to provide a forum for students to write with the aim of accelerating the writing process.
MPBI Writing Community adalah inisiatif yang bertujuan untuk mendukung dan meningkatkan kemampuan menulis akademik mahasiswa S2 FITK, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Inisiatif ini berawal dari kebutuhan yang teridentifikasi di kalangan mahasiswa MPBI untuk memperkuat keterampilan menulis akademik mereka, yang sangat penting untuk keberhasilan dalam studi pascasarjana dan publikasi akademik.
The fourth session of the MPBI Writing Community focused on strategies to improve academic writing skills, given the importance of this ability in writing theses, journal articles, and other scientific papers. This activity also aims to create a forum for students to share experiences, challenges, and effective writing techniques.
The MPBI Writing Community Session 4 activity has the same writing concept as session 2, namely students are given 50 minutes to write and 10 minutes to rest. Before starting the writing process, the Head of the English Language Education Masters Study Program, Mrs. Maya Defianty, Ph.D., started a question and answer discussion to determine what students will do and what goals they want to achieve from today's activities. There are regulations in the writing process with this system, namely students are only allowed to use laptops or tablets for writing only.
In the 50 minutes of writing in the MPBI Writing Community Session 4 activity, students focus on writing with their respective laptops. Students must reduce interaction with other students because they have the responsibility to complete a project or goal that has been set at the beginning. After that, students are given a 10-minute break, they are given the freedom to do other activities. In this activity, three cycles of the 50-10 minute writing process system have been carried out.
After completing all the cycles carried out in the MPBI Writing Community session 4, students were asked to report their achievements in the writing process. There was a discussion session related to writing achievements between students guided by the Head of MPBI Study Program, Mrs. Maya Defianty, Ph.D. The students gave statements regarding their achievements and had better targets for writing in the next activity. Students felt real benefits by participating in this activity because they were driven by time to complete something well and with a strong commitment.
The MPBI Writing Community Session 4 activity contributed significantly to the development of academic writing skills of MPBI students. With strong support and collaboration, it is hoped that students can continue to improve their abilities and achieve higher academic success. Therefore, the MPBI Writing Community activity can be held for the next session to facilitate and improve the writing process of students.
Studium Generale dengan tema:"Publish, Don’t Perish: Disentangling the Complexities of Academic Publishing"

Jakarta, May 4, 2024 - The English Language Education Masters Program, Faculty of Islamic Education and Teacher Training, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, is committed to improving the quality of education by holding a Studium Generale related to the writing and publication of scientific papers. The event, which took place on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 08.00 to 13.30 WIB, aims to facilitate lecturers and students to improve the quality of academic writing and publication.
Dr. Ibrar Bhatt and Dr. Udi Samanhudi provided insights into their experiences in writing articles and the importance of the revision and error-checking process before publication. The final Q&A session covered strategies for improving writing skills in a short time, emphasizing the importance of continuing to practice and challenging yourself by writing under tight deadlines.


Saat menulis artikel, jangan lupa cek beberapa kali agar tak terjadi kesalahan dan kekeliruan. Pertanyaan yang di highlight dari sesi tersebut adalah bagaimana cara agar bisa meningkatkan skill menulis dalam waktu dekat dengan keep practice and challenge yourself to write in narrow time.
Kemudian acara ditutup dengan harapan bahwa pengetahuan yang didapat akan memberikan manfaat bagi peserta dalam menghadapi tantangan publikasi akademis di masa depan.
Workshop on how to write a great PhD proposal

Jakarta, May 28, 2024 - The English Language Education Masters Program, Faculty of Islamic Education and Teacher Training, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, is committed to improving the quality of education by holding a workshop on writing Ph.D. proposals. The event, which took place on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 08.00 to 13.30 WIB, aims to facilitate lecturers and students to improve the quality of academic writing.
In the first session, Prof. Daniel Muijs from Queen Belfast University, he delivered material on how to write a proposal for Masters students or lecturers who want to continue their education to a doctoral level. He gave tips, practical guidance and strategies for writing an effective and interesting PhD proposal, to help students or lecturers prepare to continue their studies to a higher level. Prof. Daniel emphasized important elements in a PhD proposal such as background, research objectives, methodology, and literature review. Furthermore, he provided insight into the importance of a clear and well-structured proposal, identified relevant research problems, and explained the importance of continuing education.


In the second session, the activity continued with making a short draft proposal and a question and answer session. Participants were divided into small groups to present their draft proposals. Then, the presenters provided feedback for improving the proposals. In the question and answer session, the participants actively provided ideas related to their research proposals and the presenters provided constructive answers.
In the Workshop activity held by the Master of English Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is an important step in presenting the results of higher quality writing. This academic activity can provide broader insight and knowledge to students, lecturers, and academics to prepare to continue higher education.
